Yereance advances in tennis singles

Boothbay Region High School sophomore Griffin Yereance advanced to state Round of 52 in the tennis singles tournament on May 17 at Bates College by winning two matches in the Region 3 prelim round on Saturday, May 4.

In the first round, Yereance, who plays second singles for BRHS, defeated Casey Duncan of Lincoln Academy, 8-6. In the second round, he defeated Erick Cunliffe of Skowhegan, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6).

Two other BRHS tennis players, junior Cleyton Splaine (1st singles) and senior Rodi Mayne (1st doubles), also competed in the prelim. Splaine defeated Devn Tardiff of Cony, 8-2, in the first round but lost to Liam O’Dwyer of Camden in the second round, 6-1, 6-2. Mayne lost in the first round to Noah D’Souza of Morse, 8-5.
