Trevett: Potluck April 17

Mon, 04/01/2024 - 11:00am

Spring has sprung, the grass has risen and this is where the April 17 potluck is: BICA hall (24 West Side Road). Thanks to Bill and his helpers for getting the hall ready for guests after its winter rest. The water is running and the heat is heating (if necessary). Please bring a main or side dish or dessert to share. As always, water and coffee will be provided. Don’t forget your beverage of choice. You may contact Evelyn (380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com) with any questions. See you at 5:30.

A really big thank you to Emily and James and Sally for hosting winter potlucks in their homes. These were great times to enjoy good company and good food during the off season. Everyone was on good behavior so maybe BICA will be invited back again. And thanks to all who helped clean up.

Lots of fun things are in the works for BICA in the months ahead so stay tuned for those announcements. First up will be our second annual island trash pickup. This will take place the morning of Saturday, April 27. Safety vests, gloves, and bags will be provided and available for pickup at the 17th potluck or at the hall the morning of the 27th. All volunteers will be rewarded with pizza at the hall provided by Sandy and Rob after the cleanup. Last year 10 pizzas took care of feeding the crew but Rob wants to do more pizza this year so that means more volunteers are needed. If you would like to help but are not available on the 27th, no problem, just pickup ahead of time whenever it’s convenient for you. If you would like to pitch in, please email rob@jedwardknight.com.

Bill has an outside cleanup at the hall planned for the same Saturday (27th). He is looking for 4 or 5 people to help take care of leaves and “natures trimmings.” There may be some brush trimming as well.  You can text Bill at (617) 968 2688 if you are able to help. This volunteer effort will earn you pizza as well.

Probably the most important date for this year’s calendar is Saturday, July 6. This will be the date for the Better Than a Yard Sale. Last year this was BICA’s most successful event and only fundraiser. It provided much needed funds to cover hall expenses. It is not too early to think about contributing and spring cleaning is always a good time to start setting aside your no longer needed amazing items to donate to the sale. As a reminder, clothing, large pieces of furniture or electronics are not accepted. We will be asking for either indoor or outdoor plants so if you are able to help in that area it would be appreciated. We will also be asking for baked goods so please keep that in mind. The list of wants is not yet complete so keep an eye out for further updates.

BICA can always use help—if you would like to volunteer to help host a potluck this year please get in touch with Evelyn to learn more about how it works.
