After falling behind in the fifth inning, the Boothbay Region High School baseball team couldn’t keep up with Mt. Abram May 1. The Roadrunners won 6-1, leaving the Seahawks 2-3 for the year.

Each team made one run in the first inning followed by three without scoring. Sam Markowitz made the Seahawks’ sole run, earned. Mt. Abram then took a three-point lead in the fifth inning and cemented the win in the seventh with two more.

“This is where we’ve been. We stay with them, stay with them and, all of a sudden, we have a bad inning,” coach Ed Crocker said. “They didn't beat us. We beat ourselves.”

Liam Jacobs led Boothbay’s efforts at bat with three hits while Maddox Cusumano and Markowitz each had one. Mt. Abrams had six hits overall.

Finn Harkins and Aidric Canada pitched for the Seahawks and, combined, threw seven strikeouts. They allowed two earned runs and four walks. Boothbay had four strikeouts, one walk and three errors.

Despite the loss, Crocker said his team’s pitching has been outstanding and the players are putting the bat on the ball against curve balls, knuckle balls and fastballs. However, he said one bad inning can take a toll on his pitchers. “I really think this team can beat anyone as soon as we start minimizing the errors,” he said.
