More than just bricks and mortar

Dear Editor:

I’m writing as a Boothbay Harbor resident, business owner, and parent who’s seen our town’s school do their best with what they’ve got. If you’ve taken the time to tour the facility, you would agree that something needs to be done. When the recent referendum passed for the 30-million-dollar budget for renovations of our elementary and middle school, many felt a huge sense of relief, because we know we can’t keep kicking the can down the road. We’ve all had plenty of chances to look over the plans and the budget. It’s been talked through, and the community had its say when we voted to approve it. It's tough to see a small group trying to challenge this decision. We need to move forward, not backward.

The economic implications of a renovated school extend beyond education. Enhanced school facilities can boost local property values, attract new families, and stimulate local businesses, creating a cycle of growth and prosperity that benefits all.

There is more at stake than just bricks and mortar; this is about laying the foundation for a thriving future for all residents of the Boothbay region.

I wish we could all come together to support this crucial project and invest in a future that our next generations deserve.
