Continue to say yes

Dear Editor:

Wednesday evening, April 24 my sons and I celebrated when “The Register” reported the news that the school I once called my "home" and the school they now do would finally be renovated.  My middle school son celebrated the fact they would have a space that made them feel like middle schoolers and my youngest celebrated the fact there would be a true cafeteria to eat in. My oldest celebrated feeling like his voice mattered as he participated in the support even though he likely won’t benefit from it while he is in school. They all celebrated that they would not have to think about lead in the pipes and asbestos in tiles. Most importantly, we celebrated the fact that our voices were heard. The town saw us as important and saw that the safety and education of our most vulnerable, our youth, was important.

Now I am hearing that there may be some push back. That some people still don't want what is best for our children. My kids and I are devastated. What has happened to this town? Where is the hometown pride and the support of our youth? Why are we so divided? Why can't we just come together for a greater good, our kids? Why is our town not united as one in protecting our most important asset for our future, our youth?

Thank you to all who have shown their support. I had tears in my eyes watching the support. Please continue to stand up for our youth. Everyone, please work together as a community to be the town we once were. The town I can say I am proud to be part of. A town that supports our youth, their education, and their safety right here in our town. Please continue to say "yes" to the referendum.
