Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club ready for summer after spectacular solar eclipse

The Boothbay region recently experienced the breathtaking wonder of the solar eclipse on April 8, which drew crowds of awestruck onlookers to our state to witness the rare celestial event. As the community recovers from the excitement, the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club is now setting its sights on an equally thrilling summer season ahead.

In an effort to make boating more accessible, the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club is offering half-priced moorings to new members on a space-available basis for the 2024 season. "Our goal is to get as many people out on the water as possible this summer," Commodore Long explained. "This incentive is just one way we're hoping to grow our Yacht Club community and share our passion with others."

The young sailors of the Boothbay Region Sailing Club have already been making waves, with impressive showings at recent regattas hosted by Sail Maine in Portland. At the Stags Leap Team Race Regatta on March 30, a team from Lincoln Academy including Toby Clarkson, Piper Carleton, Otto Schoenthal, Alden Hall, Griffin Chace, and Noah Arbuckle dominated the competition, going 10-3 to claim victory.

Then on April 7, the students from the Boothbay Region High School, including two middle schoolers, and Lincoln Academy joined forces as a mixed team for the Clipper Challenge. The event was also hosted by Sail Maine. Although not making it quite to the top this time, sailing in the below freezing wind with a solid 9-10 knots with gusts to 15 knots, out of the NNE was an accomplishment by itself.

"These students have proven time and again that they have what it takes to excel on the water," said Coach Chris Liberti. "We're incredibly proud of their accomplishments so far, and we can't wait to see what they'll achieve as the spring sailing season unfolds."
