Shop for Maine-made crafts at the second annual juried Maine Crafts Show held in the historic garden and barn at Nickels-Sortwell House on July 26 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Nickels-Sortwell House is located at 121 Main Street in Wiscasset. Part of the proceeds will benefit Historic New England’s work to preserve and maintain this stunning 1807 Federal style mansion. Enjoy the work of some of Maine’s most talented and unique crafters. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission to the show is free. Tours of Nickels-Sortwell House will be offered on the half hour from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tour admission is $8 Adults, $7 Seniors, $4 Students. Historic New England members and Wiscasset residents are free.

Crafters include international award-winning tatter, Elaine O’Donal. O’Donal, who lives and tats in Gorham, has been tatting for more than 30 years and began learning the craft because she loved lace. “Tatting is a very old form of knotted lace,” she says, “Martha Washington was a tatter.” Whether you’re looking for a gift, something to remember your time in Maine by or just a unique object of beauty, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this show.

After the crafts show, explore Wiscasset’s historic downtown and spectacular views of the Sheepscot River during the July Wiscasset Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. The village offers eateries and one-of-a-kind shops from antiques to folk craft and mid-century furnishings; personal luxuries and gifts for loved ones back home. View the incomparable art and meet the artists, sip some wine, and enjoy the sounds of strolling minstrels. Enjoy fresh oysters from O'Oysters and Mexican specialties from Taco the Town food trucks, both on Middle Street.
